The Iranian Revolutionary Guard warns Washington: No foreign role in Hormuz and any adventure will be met with a decisive response

Published: July 9, 2026

The naval force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced that navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is witnessing a gradual return, confirming that it has managed over the past two weeks to "establish security" in this strategic passage, and raise the crossing capacity to about half of the levels that existed before the recent escalation.

The naval force said, in a statement, that the measures taken in the strait came after what it described as a "crushing response" to American attacks, considering that the recent confrontation showed that resolution is not only related to the size of the military arsenal, but to the will to endure and the ability to impose new field rules.

The statement emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz is not an open arena for foreign interventions, confirming that "foreigners have no share" in its management or in imposing navigation rules within it, in a clear reference to Tehran's rejection of any American or Western role in regulating navigation in the region.

The Revolutionary Guard warned that any American move to intervene in determining ship routes, or obstruct the gradual reopening of navigation, will be met with a decisive response, holding Washington responsible for any escalation that may endanger the interests of the countries benefiting from the strait.

The statement pointed out that ship passage will remain linked to their commitment to the specified routes and the security controls set by Tehran, considering that respecting these procedures is the basic condition to ensure safe passage at the current stage.

This position comes at a time when the Strait of Hormuz remains at the heart of regional tension, due to its vital importance in global energy movement, and because any disruption in it is immediately reflected on oil and gas prices and international supply chains.

The Iranian statement also reflects a clear attempt to establish a new equation in the strait, based on Tehran considering itself the party capable of controlling navigation movement, in exchange for rejecting any security arrangements led by the United States or its allies in the region.

Gulf and Western capitals are watching these developments cautiously, amid fears that any naval clash or military miscalculation could reignite the confrontation, especially with the ongoing tension between Washington and Tehran and the exchange of warnings regarding navigation security.

Between the Iranian talk of a gradual reopening of the strait, and the American warnings of threats to freedom of navigation, Hormuz remains one of the most dangerous flashpoints in the crisis, where any uncalculated step could move the tension from the stage of political and military deterrence to a broader confrontation with direct regional and international effects.
