The Qatari Ministry of Defense announced on Monday that the Qatari Amiri Air Force shot down two Sukhoi 24 warplanes that it said were coming from Iran, as part of an operation to repel an air and missile attack targeting the country's territory.

The ministry explained in an official statement that the Qatari air defenses also managed to intercept seven ballistic missiles, confirming that they were all shot down before reaching their designated targets inside the country.
It also pointed out that the Amiri Air Force, in cooperation with the Qatari Amiri Naval Forces, succeeded in repelling five drones that targeted several areas within the country on the same day.
The statement confirmed that the threats were dealt with immediately upon detection and according to a pre-prepared operations plan, stressing that all hostile targets were successfully neutralized without reaching their objectives.
The Qatari Ministry of Defense emphasized that the armed forces possess full readiness and the necessary military capabilities to protect the sovereignty of the state and safeguard its security, affirming that any external threat will be firmly confronted in accordance with international laws and the state's legitimate right to defend itself.
This development comes amid a sharp escalation in regional tensions and the widening scope of military confrontations in the region in recent days.
