Cairo —
Egypt announced the launch of a new digital system for obtaining visas on arrival, in a step aimed at modernizing airport services and speeding up the entry procedures for travelers and tourists.

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly witnessed the signing of two agreements for the management and operation of the new digital system related to the electronic visa at Cairo International Airport, in the presence of government officials and representatives from the banking and technology sectors.

The government confirmed that the actual operation of the system will begin during the upcoming August in all buildings of Cairo International Airport, with the experience gradually being expanded to other Egyptian airports.

The new system relies on replacing the traditional paper stamp with a secured electronic visa issued via a QR Code, which can be digitally verified within seconds at passport control points.

The system will allow travelers to obtain the visa through several means, including self-service machines inside the airport, the official website, or the mobile application, with the possibility of issuing it in advance up to 48 hours before arrival.

Tourism companies can also carry out the procedures electronically on behalf of travelers, as part of a plan aimed at reducing congestion and speeding up arrival movement inside airports.

The Egyptian government sees the project as part of a broader plan for digital transformation and the development of tourism and service infrastructure, especially as the country seeks to increase the number of tourists and improve the visitor experience from the moment of entry.

The new system is expected to contribute to reducing waiting times, decreasing reliance on paper transactions, and enhancing the efficiency of security and administrative procedures within Egyptian airports.

In recent years, Egypt has been seeking to modernize airport services and border crossings, alongside expansion and development projects aimed at supporting the tourism and aviation sectors and enhancing the capacity of major airports.
