Video documenting an attempt to steal a vehicle using a tool to cut the steering lock in Biel

A video showed suspects using an electric tool to cut a steering wheel lock during a theft attempt in the Bell area, in an incident that reflects the evolution of car theft methods despite some owners resorting to additional protection measures.

According to the video, the suspects approached the vehicle and tried to remove the steering wheel lock using a cutting tool, in an attempt to access the car and start it or move it.

Bell Police are investigating the incident, while residents are asked to provide investigators with any information or surveillance camera recordings that may help identify those involved.

The incident comes amid ongoing vehicle thefts in Ontario, where gangs have started using bolder tools and techniques to bypass locks and security systems.

The police advise vehicle owners to use multiple protection methods, such as steering wheel locks, tracking devices, keeping smart keys inside signal-blocking pouches, in addition to parking cars in well-lit and monitored areas as much as possible.
