Ontario Police issued a wanted notice for a man suspected of involvement in a fraud targeting an elderly person, resulting in the victim losing about 33,000 dollars.
According to the police, the elderly person was defrauded after the suspect convinced him to transfer a large sum of money under investment pretexts and promises of financial returns, only to later discover that he was a victim of an organized scam and that his money had disappeared.
The police explained that investigations led to identifying the suspect, but he remains at large, while authorities continue their efforts to track him down and arrest him.
The police called on anyone with information about the whereabouts or movements of the wanted person to contact the investigators, emphasizing that any information could help in his arrest and the recovery of the stolen funds.
They also renewed their warning to the public, especially the elderly, against dealing with any investment offers or requests to transfer money before verifying the identity of the persons or entities involved, noting that scammers often exploit trust or urgency to convince victims to make hasty financial decisions.
They confirmed that financial fraud crimes targeting the elderly have been increasing in recent years, urging family members to educate their relatives about modern fraud methods and to report any suspicious activity immediately.
