Honda announced a recall of hundreds of thousands of vehicles in Canada and the United States due to a defect that may cause the rearview camera image to fail when the transmission is shifted into reverse.
The recall includes a number of vehicles whose internal screens may not display the image from the rear camera correctly, which could limit the driver's ability to see people or objects behind the vehicle while reversing or parking.
This defect increases the risk of collisions, especially in parking lots, residential areas, and places where relying solely on mirrors to see the area around the vehicle is difficult.
Honda intends to notify owners of the vehicles included in the recall and invite them to visit authorized dealers to carry out the necessary repairs at no cost to them.
The remedy may include updating the software related to the display system or replacing some affected components, depending on the condition of the vehicle and the nature of the defect determined by the technicians.
The announcement does not mean that all vehicles included actually suffer from the problem, but it is a precautionary measure to address the potential risk before it leads to accidents or injuries.
The company urged Honda and Acura vehicle owners to check the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to see if their cars are listed in the recall campaign, then book an appointment with the nearest authorized dealer.
Drivers who notice the rear camera image cutting out, or a blank or flickering screen when reversing, are advised to use mirrors and direct turning to check the area behind the car until the repair is completed.
The recall process is part of the usual regulatory procedures that car companies adhere to when discovering a defect that may affect the vehicle's safety or its compliance with safety standards approved in Canada and the United States.
