Two dead and several injured in shooting during Canada's largest Latin festival

Two people were killed and several others injured in a mass shooting incident that took place during the "Salsa on St. Clair" festival in Toronto, one of the largest Latin festivals in Canada, leading to a wide security alert and the suspension of events in the area.

Toronto police reported that six people were shot during the incident, with two dying from their injuries, while the other injured were taken to hospitals for treatment.

Deputy Chief of Toronto Police, Frank Parede, explained that preliminary investigations indicate an exchange of gunfire between several individuals, confirming that police officers managed to seize two firearms at the scene, while investigators continue to collect evidence and determine the circumstances of the incident.

He pointed out that the scene was crowded with visitors at the moment of the shooting, causing panic and confusion among those present, before security forces were able to secure and evacuate the area.

The police confirmed that no suspects have been arrested so far, but clarified that the available data does not indicate an ongoing threat to the public at this time.

Investigation teams continue to review surveillance camera recordings and listen to witness statements, in an attempt to identify all involved and the motives behind the shooting.
