The Canadian Olympic Committee mourns the victims of the shooting in Tumbler Ridge

The Canadian Olympic Committee expressed its deep sorrow and solidarity with the families of the victims of the shooting incident that took place in the town of Tumbler Ridge in British Columbia.
In a statement issued on Wednesday morning by the Canadian delegation participating in the Milan–Cortina 2026 Olympics, the committee confirmed that Canadian athletes are following what happened in their homeland with great sadness, emphasizing their support for the affected local community during this difficult time.
The committee said that members of the Canadian team stand united in solidarity with the victims and their families, at a time when sadness has overshadowed the atmosphere of the Olympic Village as updates from Canada continue to flow.
According to authorities, the attack resulted in ten deaths, including the suspected perpetrator, in addition to seven victims inside Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, while two bodies were found inside a nearby house believed to be connected to the incident. More than 25 people were injured, two of whom were transported to the hospital in critical condition.
The Olympic Committee renewed its calls for the speedy recovery of the injured and patience for the families of the victims, noting that the school includes students from seventh to twelfth grade, which amplified the impact of the tragedy on the local community.
The small town located in the northeastern part of the province has turned into a center of national mourning, whose echo has extended to international sports forums, in one of the deadliest incidents the region has witnessed in recent years.
