Budapest —
Paris Saint-Germain was crowned Champions League winner for the second consecutive season, after defeating Arsenal 4-3 on penalties in the final held at Puskás Aréna in the Hungarian capital, Budapest.
The regular and extra time ended in a 1-1 draw, after Arsenal took an early lead through Kai Havertz in the sixth minute, before Ousmane Dembélé equalized for Paris Saint-Germain from a penalty in the 65th minute.
The match remained tense until the end, with a clear defensive advantage for Arsenal for long periods, against increasing pressure from Paris after the equalizing goal.
In the penalty shootout, the French team secured the title with a 4-3 result, after Arsenal missed two penalties, including the decisive kick taken by Gabriel that went over the bar.
With this victory, Paris Saint-Germain became the first team to retain the Champions League title since Real Madrid, and only the second team in the modern era of the competition to win the title two consecutive seasons.
The victory represents confirmation of Paris Saint-Germain's transformation into a stable European force under the leadership of Luis Enrique, while Arsenal suffered a painful blow in their quest to win their first Champions League title in history.
