Tesla recalls more than 218,000 cars in the United States due to a backup camera defect
Delayed rear camera image display may increase accident risk and recall includes major company models

Washington —
Tesla announced a recall of 218,867 electric cars in the United States due to a potential defect in the rearview camera system that may cause a delay in the image display when reversing.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that the delayed display of the camera image after engaging reverse gear may limit the driver's ability to see behind the vehicle, increasing the likelihood of accidents.
The recall includes several Tesla models, including Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X, in the latest action related to the company's safety and digital assistance systems in its cars.
The authorities have not reported any injuries or accidents related to the issue so far, while Tesla is expected to address the defect according to its approved repair mechanism, which often includes remote software updates when the defect is related to electronic systems.
The announcement came as Tesla's stock recorded a slight decline in pre-market trading, at a time when the company's market value remains more than 13% lower since the beginning of the year.
The new recall adds further scrutiny to the safety systems in Tesla cars, especially with the increasing reliance of modern vehicles on cameras and software in daily driving functions.
