Mild weather imposes adjustments on the schedule of some events of the 2026 Winter Paralympic Games
Organizers are moving race times to the morning to preserve snow quality and athlete safety

Unusually mild weather forced the organizers of the 2026 Winter Paralympic Games in Italy to adjust the schedule of some competitions, in a move aimed at preserving the quality of the snow and ensuring fair and safe conditions for the participating athletes.
Officials organizing the competitions in the Alpine locations are working to move several races to the early morning hours, when temperatures are lower and the snow is harder, instead of holding them later in the day where warmth causes the snow to soften and the condition of the tracks to deteriorate.
These measures come after recording higher-than-usual temperatures in the mountainous areas hosting the skiing competitions, raising concerns about the impact of weather conditions on the races, especially in sports that rely on stable snowy tracks such as alpine skiing and cross-country skiing.
Organizers confirm that maintenance teams are working intensively to preserve the tracks through the use of artificial snow and track stabilization techniques, but moving competitions to the morning remains one of the most effective solutions to ensure snow quality during the championship days.
The Winter Paralympic Games are held in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo between March 6 and 15, where hundreds of athletes from dozens of countries compete in six main sports, amid close monitoring of weather conditions that may impose additional adjustments to the competition schedule if the warm weather wave continues.
