International Astronomy Center: Impossible to see the Ramadan crescent on the evening of February 17 in Arab countries
Thursday, February 19 is likely the first day of the blessed month of Ramadan
Published: February 1, 2026
The International Astronomy Center announced that the sighting of the Ramadan crescent moon will be impossible on the evening of Monday, February 17, from all Arab countries, based on precise astronomical data and calculations related to the moon's position and observation conditions.
The center explained in a statement that the moon at sunset on that day will not be visible either to the naked eye or using telescopes, making the announcement of the beginning of Ramadan the following day astronomically impossible.
Accordingly, the International Astronomy Center predicted that Wednesday, February 18, will be the completion of the month of Sha'ban, and that Thursday, February 19, will be the first day of the blessed month of Ramadan in most countries that rely on astronomical calculations or require the possibility of sighting.
The center confirmed that this estimate comes within the framework of scientific calculations, with the final decision regarding the announcement of the beginning of the holy month remaining in the hands of the official authorities in each country.
