Paris —
Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand announced an additional $100 million to support humanitarian aid directed to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, amid the worsening humanitarian crisis and deteriorating field conditions.
The Canadian government stated that the new funding will be provided through United Nations agencies, Red Cross and Red Crescent partners, and non-governmental humanitarian organizations, aiming to deliver urgent assistance to affected civilians.
The support includes emergency medical services, food and nutrition programs, water and sanitation, shelter, protection, in addition to life-saving humanitarian interventions.
The new announcement raises the total Canadian international aid related to humanitarian needs in Palestine to more than $500 million since the beginning of the crisis.
Canada reaffirmed its call to allow the delivery of humanitarian aid safely, quickly, and without obstacles, to protect civilians and humanitarian workers, and to fully comply with international humanitarian law.
The announcement comes at a time when conditions in Gaza are deteriorating, and concerns are increasing in the West Bank amid settlement expansion and rising violence linked to extremist settlers.
Ottawa also indicated that the new funding is part of broader moves this week, including imposing additional sanctions on individuals and entities associated with extremist settler violence in the West Bank, and launching the International Peace Fund for Israelis and Palestinians in cooperation with Australia and the United Kingdom.
Canada confirmed that it will continue to support efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace based on the two-state solution, enabling Israelis and Palestinians to live side by side in peace, security, and dignity.
