Carney: The G7 no longer runs the world nor claims to do so

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said that the G7 no longer “runs the world or pretends to do so,” in a statement reflecting a more realistic view of the role of major industrial powers in an international system undergoing rapid transformations.

Carney's remarks came ahead of the G7 summit, at a time when challenges facing Western countries are increasing, from trade and security tensions to the rise of new economic and political powers outside the traditional Western framework.

Carney emphasized that the importance of the G7 lies not in its ability to impose its decisions on the world, but in its ability to coordinate among countries with shared values and interests, and to build practical alliances to deal with global crises.
