Toronto —
Canada opened its participation in hosting the 2026 World Cup with a short ceremony held at Toronto Stadium, before the Canadian national team’s match against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the first round of Group B competitions.
The ceremony came one day after the official opening of the tournament in Mexico, as part of the historic edition hosted by Canada, the United States, and Mexico with the participation of 48 teams.
During the ceremony, Canadian artist of Moroccan origin Nora Fathi caught attention with a singing and performance act, presenting the song “Sir Sir” associated with the tournament’s atmosphere, amid enthusiastic crowd interaction in the stands.
The ceremony also included brief performance segments and a parade of the participating teams’ flags, in a celebratory scene preceding the first men’s World Cup match held on Canadian soil.
The match between Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina carries special symbolism, as it marks the beginning of the Canadian team’s journey on home ground and in front of its fans, in one of the most prominent sporting moments in the country’s history.
