Vancouver —
The Canadian national team delivered an exceptional performance in front of its fans at "BC Place" stadium in Vancouver, after they scored six goals without reply against their Qatari counterparts in the second group of the 2026 World Cup, achieving their first victory in the history of their participation in the men's World Cup.

The undisputed star of the match was striker Jonathan David, who scored a historic hat-trick, leading the Canadian attack in one of the strongest performances witnessed in the tournament so far.

Both Cyle Larin and Nathan Saliba contributed, along with an own goal from one of Qatar's defenders, to complete the Canadian sextet that reflected the large difference in performance between the two teams.

The Canadian team imposed its control over the course of the match from the first minutes, benefiting from the large crowd support, while the Qatari team’s suffering increased after receiving two red cards during the match, which gave the home team a clear advantage both technically and numerically.

The match also saw the presence of captain Alphonso Davies on the match list after recovering from injury, although he started the game on the bench, while the starting lineup succeeded in delivering a sweeping offensive performance that confirmed the Canadian team's ambitions in the tournament held on its soil.

With this win, the Canadian team raised its tally to four points after drawing in the first round against Bosnia and Herzegovina, while the Qatari team's task became complicated before the last round of the group stage.

Jonathan David's hat-trick is considered a historic achievement, as he became the first player from a host country to score a hat-trick in the World Cup since Englishman Geoff Hurst six decades ago, on a night that will remain etched in the memory of Canadian football.
