Test alert on devices across Canada today
National test of the Alert Ready system to ensure its readiness in emergencies
Published: November 19, 2025
Canadians today are witnessing the sending of a test alert on mobile phones, televisions, and radios, as part of the periodic testing of the national alert system Alert Ready, which is used to immediately inform the population when threats to public safety occur.
The alert will be broadcast at specific times that vary between provinces and territories, according to a schedule prepared by officials in the Emergency Management. Supervisors of the system confirm that this test does not require any action from citizens, and its purpose is to verify the proper functioning of networks and technical infrastructure to ensure that real alerts reach everyone without delay.
The Alert Ready system conducts this test twice a year in coordination between local and federal governments, broadcasting authorities, and telecommunications companies. The alerts that the system may send later include cases such as natural disasters, security threats, or Amber Alerts related to missing children.
The competent authorities emphasize the importance of these tests to ensure the system's readiness in critical conditions, noting that today's experience also aims to familiarize the population with the official alert that may appear on their devices in the event of an actual emergency.
