Seattle - The Egypt national team concluded its journey in the group stage of the 2026 World Cup with a 1-1 draw against Iran, in the match held at "Lumen Field" in the American city of Seattle, as part of the third and final round, securing the Pharaohs' seat in the round of 32.

Egypt opened the scoring early through Mahmoud Saber in the fifth minute, after taking advantage of a rebound from the Iranian goalkeeper, placing the ball in the net to announce the Pharaohs' lead.

The Iranian team almost equalized from a penalty awarded by the referee in the ninth minute, but goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir excelled in saving it, before Ramin Rezaeian succeeded in scoring the equalizer for Iran in the 14th minute.

Egypt suffered an early blow with the exit of defender Mohamed Abdel Monem due to injury in the 15th minute, with Yasser Ibrahim coming on as his replacement, while both teams exchanged attacking attempts during the remainder of the first half without any change in the score.

In the second half, head coach Hossam Hassan made several changes to activate the attacking performance, bringing on Marwan Attia and Omar Marmoush, then Ahmed Sayed "Zizo", while Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet missed Egypt's best chance as his shot went just beside the post.

Both teams tried to snatch the winning goal in the final minutes, but the defenses and the goalkeepers' brilliance prevented any change in the score, ending the match in a positive 1-1 draw.

Egypt raised its tally to continue its journey in the tournament, having already secured qualification to the round of 32 before the start of the last round, benefiting from the group results, to face Australia in the next round, while the Iranian team was eliminated from the tournament.
