Ottawa —
Thousands of users around the world faced issues today accessing Instagram and several services of the «Meta» company, in a widespread outage that also affected Facebook and Messenger to varying degrees.
Users reported difficulties logging in, loading the homepage, posting photos and stories, in addition to error messages appearing or some apps stopping working normally.
Outage tracking platforms showed a sharp increase in the number of reports within a short period, indicating that the malfunction was not individual or confined to one area.
«Meta» confirmed that it is aware of the problem and is working to restore services to normal, without immediately revealing the technical cause behind the outage.
The interruptions caused a wave of comments on other platforms, where users resorted to checking whether the problem was general or related to their accounts or devices.
The full extent of the impact or the expected duration to fix the malfunction is not yet clear, but the outage highlighted again the reliance of millions of individuals, companies, and content creators on social media platforms for communication, work, and daily marketing.
