Ottawa —
Ottawa police charged a 17-year-old driver with stunt driving after he was spotted driving at 136 kilometers per hour on Leitrim Road on Sunday.
The police said the vehicle was traveling at nearly twice the allowed speed limit and was seen performing an unsafe overtaking maneuver on the road.
According to the police, the driver holds a G2 license, and this is the third time he has been charged with stunt driving since December 2025.
As a result of the violation, the vehicle was impounded and the driver's license was suspended. The teenager is scheduled to appear in court in Ottawa.
Stunt driving is usually classified in Ontario when a driver exceeds the speed limit by 50 kilometers per hour or more, or commits other dangerous behaviors on the road.
Previous data from Ottawa police indicate that a number of drivers have been caught multiple times for stunt driving since 2023, although these cases represent a limited percentage of total violations.
The police say that the recurrence of these violations reflects an ongoing risk to public safety, especially when it involves young or novice drivers driving at high speeds on city roads.
