Investigations lead to the arrest of a suspect three months after the Mohawk student was killed by a stray bullet

Hamilton - Hamilton police announced this morning the arrest of a 32-year-old man in connection with a shooting incident that resulted in the death of international student Harsimeret Randhawa (21 years old) earlier this year.
Randhawa, who came from India to study at Mohawk College, was waiting for the bus on Upper James Street on the evening of April 17 when she was hit by a stray bullet during a shootout between two cars. She died at the scene.
The investigation, which lasted more than three months, tracked surveillance footage and identified the two vehicles involved—the black Mercedes and the white Hyundai Elantra—which were later seized. The suspect was arrested early this morning in Niagara Falls and transferred to Hamilton where he faces charges expected to be officially announced after his first court appearance.
Background of the incident
The shooting occurred around 7:30 PM in a busy commercial area.
The victim was not targeted; she was hit by a bullet that ricocheted from one of the involved vehicles.
The incident sparked a wave of sympathy within the student community and pressure on authorities to enhance safety measures.
The police called on any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from that evening to come forward to support the investigation, confirming that further arrests are still possible.
