Somalia requests an emergency Security Council session after Israel's recognition of "Somaliland"
Mogadishu considers the Israeli move a violation of sovereignty and a threat to regional security and calls for urgent international action.

The Federal Republic of Somalia has submitted an official request to hold an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council, following Israel's announcement of its recognition of the Somaliland region as an independent state, a move that sparked widespread controversy and regional and international reactions.
The Somali government confirmed that the Israeli recognition constitutes a blatant violation of Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and represents a clear breach of the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter, especially the rules that emphasize respect for the internationally recognized borders of member states.
Mogadishu clarified that this step sets a dangerous precedent that could threaten stability in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region, calling on the United Nations Security Council to assume its legal and political responsibilities and take a clear stance regarding this development.
In an official statement, Somalia stressed that the Somaliland region is an integral part of the Somali state's territory, and that any unilateral recognition of its independence has no legal effect, affirming its determination to continue diplomatic efforts at both regional and international levels to defend its sovereignty and national unity.
The Somali move comes amid widespread Arab, Islamic, and African condemnations of the recognition decision, amid warnings of its repercussions on regional security and the possibility of using it as a gateway to redraw political and security balances in the region.
The Security Council is expected to discuss the Somali request during a special session in New York, at a time when international calls are escalating to respect international law and maintain the stability of states and their territorial integrity.
