Police investigate a vehicle towing company in Brampton after reports of illegal towing operations

The police have opened an investigation into a towing company in the city of Brampton after receiving reports related to unauthorized towing operations, in a case that reignites the debate over the practices of some towing companies within Ontario.  

According to preliminary information, vehicle owners reported that their cars were moved from various locations without obtaining clear consent from them, while some affected individuals said they were surprised by high financial demands to retrieve their vehicles.

The police are currently reviewing the reports and determining whether the towing operations were conducted in violation of the laws and regulations governing the towing and vehicle sector.

The investigations come at a time when the province continues to tighten oversight of the vehicle towing sector, after years of complaints related to inflated bills, random towing operations, and disputes related to traffic accidents and insurance companies.

Experts warn that some drivers find themselves under pressure in moments of stress after accidents or breakdowns, making them more vulnerable to exploitation or signing documents without full knowledge of costs and legal rights.
