The crescent of Shawwal could not be sighted, and Thursday completes the month of Ramadan.

The Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories, Chairman of the Supreme Fatwa Council, Muhammad Hussein, announced that Thursday is the completion of the blessed month of Ramadan, making Friday, March 20, 2026, the first day of Eid al-Fitr in Palestine.
A statement issued by the Palestinian Fatwa House explained that the decision came after an official meeting held in the city of Jerusalem, attended by religious scholars and notable figures, to follow up on the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon.
The crescent moon was not sighted
The statement confirmed that the committees for moon sighting were unable to see the Shawwal crescent on Wednesday evening, despite relying on astronomical calculations inside and outside Palestine, which necessitated completing thirty days of Ramadan.
Official announcement of the Eid date
Accordingly, it was decided that Thursday, March 19, would be the last day of Ramadan, and that Friday would be the first day of the blessed Eid al-Fitr.
Religious and community calls
The Mufti extended congratulations to the Palestinian people, calling for mercy and solidarity on this occasion, especially given the difficult humanitarian circumstances, emphasizing the importance of strengthening unity, patience, and steadfastness.
