The government of the province of Manitoba has officially approved the Canadian Tire service station chain as authorized sites for conducting the mandatory vehicle safety inspection (Certificate of Inspection – COI), which is the required inspection before registering or selling any car within the province.

According to a statement from Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI), the inspection includes a comprehensive evaluation of the main safety elements in the vehicle, including the brake system, tires, suspension, seat belts, steering, and exhaust systems, to ensure they meet the prescribed safety standards.

The authority confirmed that the Canadian Tire stations that have obtained the license will display the “Vehicle Inspection Safety Station” logo at their locations, noting that the inspection results are officially approved by the government and used as a condition for license renewal or ownership transfer.

MPI also emphasized the importance of verifying the accreditation of the inspection center before heading there, urging citizens to report any violations or unprofessional practices through the official complaint channels.

This step comes as part of the province’s plan to expand the network of inspection stations and facilitate access to safety services, especially in rural areas, alongside improving the efficiency of technical monitoring of vehicles to reduce accidents caused by mechanical failures or maintenance neglect.

Transportation experts believe that involving a well-known institution like Canadian Tire, which has a wide presence across Canada, will contribute to enhancing drivers’ confidence and improving road safety levels, stressing that regular vehicle inspection represents the “first line of defense” in accident prevention and ensuring cars are ready to drive safely.

The COI certificate is one of the essential requirements for registering any new or used vehicle in Manitoba, and it is granted only after passing all stages of the standard technical inspection supervised by the provincial government.
