Reuters agency reported, citing eyewitnesses, that several explosions shook the Qatari capital Doha today, Tuesday, leading to thick columns of smoke rising above Katara, one of the city's most prominent tourist and cultural areas.


One witness told the agency that he saw gray clouds of smoke rapidly rising from the area, while Qatari authorities have not yet issued any official statement clarifying the nature of the explosions or their causes, and whether there were any human casualties or material damages.


Social media users circulated videos showing a state of panic among some citizens and residents, while local sources reported that security forces rushed to the area and imposed a wide security cordon.
