Ottawa – Ontario police caught a driver speeding at a reckless 205 kilometers per hour on Highway 417 during the long weekend, in one of the most dangerous speeding violations recorded this year in the Canadian capital.
The police reported that the driver, who is in his twenties, was stopped near the «Greenbank Road» intersection, where he exceeded the highway speed limit – 100 km/h – by more than double.
According to the statement, the driver’s vehicle was immediately impounded for 14 days, and his driver’s license was suspended for seven days, according to Ontario’s careless driving laws. The driver is expected to face a hefty fine, in addition to the possibility of imprisonment.
The police warned drivers about the serious consequences of excessive speeding, especially during long weekends that usually witness heavy traffic. They confirmed that specialized teams will continue to monitor the roads using radars and drones to catch offenders.
It is noted that the violation comes as part of an extensive campaign launched by the authorities during the Labor Day holiday to enhance safety on the province’s highways.
