An employee of a cash transport company was seriously injured after being shot during an armed robbery targeting an armored vehicle in front of a Scotiabank branch in the city of Waterloo, Ontario.
Waterloo Regional Police said the shooting occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday near the intersection of Fischer-Hallman Road and Erb Street West, where several unknown individuals approached the 25-year-old employee before shooting him.
The injured person was taken to a hospital outside the area for treatment, and the police described his injuries as serious but noted that his condition is stable.
The police are treating the incident as a targeted robbery, confirming that at least four suspects participated in the attack. Descriptions of the wanted individuals have not yet been released.
GardaWorld confirmed that one of its vehicles was involved in a "security incident," noting that the safety of its employees is a top priority, and that it is cooperating with the police and providing support to the injured employee, his family, and the local team.
Scotiabank also confirmed that it is working with law enforcement agencies in the investigation, emphasizing that the safety of employees, customers, and partners comes first.
The case is being investigated by the Robbery, Break and Enter, and Auto Theft Unit, along with the General Investigations Unit of Waterloo Police.
