The Wayne Police Department in New Jersey announced the arrest of two suspects accused of stealing wedding gifts valued at approximately $60,000, in an incident that sparked widespread outrage among the bride, groom, and guests.
Authorities explained that the theft took place during a wedding held at a local event hall, where the perpetrators managed to enter a locked room and open the box designated for cash envelopes and gifts, seizing money and jewelry.
According to the police, the suspects were identified using surveillance camera footage and were later arrested after tracking their car. Lieutenant Joseph Diak, the police spokesperson, stated:
"This crime was premeditated, but thanks to the efforts of the investigation team, we were able to apprehend the suspects and recover part of the stolen items. The investigation is ongoing to determine if there are other partners or links to similar incidents."
The bride expressed her shock in a brief statement:
"What happened was heartbreaking; we did not expect our happiest day to turn into an experience full of anxiety and loss, but we are grateful for the police efforts and hope to recover the remaining gifts."
The involved parties face charges including grand theft, criminal conspiracy, and unlawful trespassing, and they have been referred to court with the possibility of additional charges depending on the investigation's developments.
