Trump pledges to "fix the situation" in Gaza and emphasizes the release of the hostages
Israeli raids on Doha increase the complexity and escalation of the prisoners' file
Published: September 12, 2025
US President Donald Trump said in an interview with Fox News today, Friday, that his administration "will work to fix the situation" in the Gaza Strip, amid the destruction witnessed in the sector due to the ongoing Israeli war.
Hostage File
Trump confirmed that he informed Hamas of the need to "release all hostages".
He pointed out that "some hostages may have been killed in the past two days", in light of the recent escalation.
He explained that "we will see if Hamas returns all the remaining hostages, alive and dead".
Israeli Estimates
Official estimates in Israel indicate that about 48 Israelis are still held captive in Gaza since October 7, 2023, but about half of them are believed to have been killed.
Raids on Doha and the Complexity of Negotiations
Israel carried out surprise raids on a complex in the Qatari capital Doha last Tuesday evening, where Hamas leaders were meeting to discuss the latest US proposal on a ceasefire and prisoner exchange.
This airstrike negatively affected the prisoner file and hindered the efforts made by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to reach an agreement.
The escalation also led to the collapse of Israeli plans to storm and fully occupy Gaza City, making the situation more tense.
