The military escalation in the Middle East, especially the war with Iran, dominated the agenda of the summit that brought together Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney with the leaders of the Nordic countries in the Norwegian capital Oslo.
The meeting included leaders from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland, where they discussed the repercussions of the conflict in the Middle East and its impact on global stability, supply chains, and energy markets.
During the summit, the leaders pledged to enhance cooperation in defense and security in the Arctic region, in addition to expanding partnerships in the green economy and clean energy, amid increasing geopolitical challenges.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre expressed his concern over the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, calling on the involved countries to work on finding ways to stop hostilities and reduce tensions in the region.
The leaders also affirmed their full support for the right of Greenland and Denmark to self-determination and the preservation of national sovereignty.
In this context, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said that her country had been subjected to what she described as "unacceptable pressures" from the United States, affirming that Copenhagen will continue to defend its sovereignty.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump had threatened to impose wide tariffs on Europe in the context of disputes related to the future of Greenland, a move that sparked diplomatic tensions between Washington and several European allies.
