American media reports indicated that a shooting incident occurred on Saturday evening near the site of the White House Correspondents' Association event in Washington, leading to the evacuation of US President Donald Trump, his deputy JD Vance, and several senior figures from the location.
The Associated Press agency reported that panic spread in the hall following the incident, while CBS network indicated that the president and senior officials were quickly removed from the annual dinner site after a "security incident" occurred.
According to initial information, the shooting took place near the main checkpoint at the Hilton Washington hotel, where the event was being held with the attendance of hundreds of journalists, politicians, and public figures. Secret Service agents and the Capitol Police intervened quickly, and Trump and his deputy were moved to a safe location.
Security sources reported that the suspect was controlled and arrested, with no confirmed injuries among the attendees so far. The area surrounding the hotel was also closed off, and additional security forces were deployed to secure the site.
Anthony Guglielmi, spokesperson for the US Secret Service, said the agency is investigating the circumstances and motives of the shooting in coordination with Washington police, confirming that security measures continue around the incident site.
The White House Correspondents' Association dinner is one of the most prominent annual events in the US capital, bringing together officials, journalists, and prominent figures, before this year’s event turned into an emergency scene due to the security incident.
