The charge includes violating bail conditions and attempting to intimidate a participant in the judicial system, while Didulo announces representing herself before the court.
Romana Didulo (50 years old), known by her alias “Queen of Canada,” appeared yesterday, Friday, before a court in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, where she represented herself during the consideration of her bail release request, after spending a full weekend in custody.
The charges against Didulo include:
Failure to comply with an undertaking.
Intimidating a justice system participant.
The charges came after a raid conducted by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) on a settlement led by Didulo in the town of Richmond near the US border. The raid resulted in the seizure of 13 semi-automatic pistol-like weapons, ammunition, and electronic devices, in addition to the arrest of 16 people.
Later, all detainees were temporarily released, except Didulo and her companion Ricky Manz, who were re-arrested due to violating their conditions after communicating with each other, while the police reported that a group including Didulo was residing in a school that had been abandoned for two years, where a “religious settlement” was established.
Judges are aware that the case details include a threat of further charges, as accusations are expected against at least three others, while investigations continue to uncover the religious and political backgrounds of this group.
Didulo’s crime may expose her to severe penalties including possible imprisonment if convicted. The results of the bail hearing are expected to be pivotal in determining the fate of Didulo and the rest of the group in the coming weeks.
