Quebec Prime Minister François Legault apologizes to immigrants
Published: September 8, 2022
The current Premier of Quebec, François Legault, apologized on Wednesday for comments he made during a press conference linking immigrants with "violence" and "extremists".
His words also sparked strong reactions from his opponents who accused the leader of the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) of portraying newcomers to the province as a "threat".
Legault said in a tweet on Twitter: "Immigration is a source of strength for Quebec. Integration will always be a challenge for the French-speaking nation in North America."
"I did not want to link immigration to violence. I apologize for what I said."
