Ottawa —
Ottawa Police pulled 21 commercial vehicles off the roads following a safety inspection campaign conducted in the Fred Barrett Arena area on Leitrim Road.

The campaign included inspecting 55 commercial vehicles, meaning that the vehicles taken out of service accounted for 38% of the total vehicles inspected.

The operation was carried out in cooperation between the Ottawa Police Traffic Safety Unit, the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, and the Ontario Provincial Police, aiming to ensure that commercial vehicles comply with safety standards and applicable laws.

The campaign resulted in 45 violations being issued, removal of two license plates, in addition to removing a non-compliant annual inspection sticker from one of the commercial vehicles.

Inspections revealed violations and defects related to brakes, tires, wheels, signaling systems, suspension, load securing, as well as violations related to driving licenses, permits, and overloaded cargo.

The police confirmed that the safety of commercial vehicles remains a fundamental part of protecting road users in Ottawa and reducing the risks of accidents associated with non-compliant vehicles.
