Ottawa —
The Ottawa Charge team reached the Walter Cup final for the second consecutive season, after an exciting 4-3 victory over the Boston Fleet in the second overtime, clinching the semifinal series in four games.
Mikayla Cava scored the winning goal one minute and 12 seconds into the second overtime, after redirecting Katrina Mrazova's shot in front of the goal, giving Ottawa a dramatic win that ended Boston's hopes of a comeback.
Ottawa had lost the first game in the series before winning the next three games, handing Boston three consecutive defeats for the first time this season.
Also scoring for Ottawa were Sarah Wozniwich, Rebecca Leslie, and Brooke Hobson, while goaltender Gwyneth Phillips shone with 43 saves.
Meanwhile, Shay Maloney, Megan Keller, and Sophie Shirley scored for Boston, while goaltender Erin Frankel made 29 saves.
Ottawa took a 2-0 lead early in the second period, before Boston responded with three goals in just one minute and 33 seconds to turn the score to 3-2. However, Hobson brought Ottawa back to a tie in the middle of the same period by following up on a rebound in front of the goal.
The first overtime saw a notable chance for Boston with a numerical advantage after a penalty on Brian Jenner, but the team failed to capitalize, before Cava decided the match at the start of the second overtime.
Ottawa Charge will face in the final the winner of the Montreal Victor and Minnesota Frost series, which is being decided in a decisive fifth game.
