The French national team secured its place in the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup, after defeating the Moroccan team by two goals to nil in the quarter-final match held on Thursday evening at the Boston stadium in Foxborough.
Morocco entered the match with the ambition to continue its global adventure after strong performances in the previous rounds, but it faced a more experienced and effective French team in crucial moments, especially with the presence of Kylian Mbappé who played a prominent role in tipping the scales in favor of the "Les Bleus".
The French team waited until the second half to break the Moroccan defense's resilience, after Mbappé missed a penalty in the first half, before compensating with a beautiful goal in the 60th minute that gave France the lead and changed the rhythm of the match.
Just six minutes later, Ousmane Dembélé strengthened France's lead with a second goal that practically ended Morocco's hopes of a comeback, after the "Atlas Lions" found it difficult to create dangerous chances against a well-organized French defense.
Despite the result, Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou shone on several occasions and helped keep Morocco in the match for long periods, especially after saving the penalty taken by Mbappé in the first half.
However, the Moroccan team lacked sufficient attacking effectiveness, especially in the absence of some forward options, and was unable to convert its limited attempts into real chances capable of continuously threatening France's goal.
With this victory, France continues its strong presence in the advanced stages of the World Cup, reaching the semi-finals for the third consecutive time, confirming its status among the top contenders for the title.
As for the Moroccan team, it leaves the tournament from the quarter-finals with its head held high, having once again confirmed its presence as a strong African and Arab football force capable of competing with the world's best, and building on this journey ahead of Morocco's joint hosting of the 2030 World Cup.
The French team will face the winner of the Spain and Belgium match in the semi-finals, in a major European test that may determine the first finalist of the tournament.
