Conservatives criticize the Canadian government's policy on energy and strategic minerals
Carole Anstey says Canada needs a strategic reserve and the removal of obstacles to resource projects to boost the economy and support allies

The Canadian Conservative Party criticized the policy of Mark Carney's government on energy and natural resources, considering that Canada does not benefit sufficiently from its great capabilities in producing energy and strategic minerals, despite the increasing domestic and allied demand.
Shadow Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Carol Ansty, said that the modern economy and military capabilities cannot operate without secure supplies of energy and resources, affirming the Conservatives' support for establishing a strategic reserve of energy and minerals.
She added that Canada possesses resources that can grant it domestic economic strength and external influence, especially since it produces a large number of minerals classified as vital defense resources, which are used in military and modern technological industries.
Ansty criticized what she described as government policies that hinder resource development, considering that current laws and procedures delay projects and weaken investor confidence, instead of accelerating production and delivering Canadian resources to global markets.
She also considered that the government approach based on creating new bureaucratic pathways and selecting specific projects for support has not achieved tangible results so far, noting that Canadians hear many announcements but do not see actual achievements on the ground.
Ansty confirmed that Canada must be a natural partner to its allies in providing energy and critical minerals, especially given its possession of extensive resources of minerals, rare minerals, and high-quality uranium.
The Conservatives called for the repeal of laws they consider obstructive to development, speeding up approvals for major projects within six months, and restoring investor confidence, allowing for increased production, job creation, wage enhancement, and delivering Canadian resources to markets and allies.
