Vancouver —
The Canadian team lost to their Swiss counterpart 2-1, at the conclusion of Group B competitions of the 2026 World Cup, in a match hosted by BC Place Stadium in the city of Vancouver.

The encounter was decisive for the top of the group, after both teams entered the match with a clear advantage in the race to qualify, but the Swiss team succeeded in exploiting important moments during the second half to take the three points.

After a first half that ended goalless, Switzerland opened the scoring at the beginning of the second half, before adding the second goal and putting the Canadian team under great pressure in front of their fans.

Canada tried to return to the match and succeeded in reducing the deficit through Promise David in the 76th minute, after coming on as a substitute, giving the hosts hope in the final minutes.

Despite the late Canadian pressure, the Swiss team maintained their lead until the final whistle, securing the top spot in Group B, while Canada finished the first round in second place.

Despite the loss, the Canadian team continued its journey in the tournament after securing qualification to the round of 32, benefiting from its previous results in the group, foremost among them the big win over Qatar.

The defeat against Switzerland leaves a number of technical lessons for the Canadian coaching staff, especially regarding dealing with quick transitions and exploiting opportunities in decisive matches, before entering the knockout stage.
