Toronto —
The city of Toronto is preparing to celebrate Canada Day with a wide range of public events and family activities, on a day featuring artistic and musical performances and community celebrations, before the city concludes its program with fireworks displays at several main locations.
The main events are concentrated in Nathan Phillips Square, where musical and cultural performances and activities dedicated to families and children are held, alongside celebratory events in several parks, public squares, and waterfront areas.
The official fireworks displays are scheduled to start at 10 PM at several locations, including Ashbridges Bay Park, Stan Wadlow Park, Mel Lastman Square, and Amesbury Park, while the waterfront hosts evening shows and events that may extend beyond that time.
Authorities expect heavy attendance at celebration sites, especially in lakefront parks and areas hosting the fireworks displays, which may lead to traffic congestion and temporary closures on some surrounding streets.
On the occasion of the official holiday, most government offices, banks, public libraries, post offices, and some municipal services will be closed, while many tourist attractions, restaurants, and major shopping centers will continue to welcome visitors according to special working hours that may vary from one location to another.
Public transportation services operate on special holiday schedules, with an expected increase in passenger numbers during evening hours, so the city has urged residents and visitors to plan their travel in advance, use public transportation whenever possible, and avoid driving near fireworks sites.
Authorities also emphasized the importance of adhering to safety rules, especially regarding the use of personal fireworks, which are only allowed within specified restrictions and on private property, while their use is prohibited in public parks, beaches, streets, and parking lots.
This year’s celebrations come amid hot and humid summer weather, prompting authorities to advise attendees to carry water, avoid prolonged sun exposure, and pay attention to children and the elderly during daytime and evening events.
