The Toronto police arrested a 38-year-old man after receiving reports of him stalking children in a local park, attempting to grab some of them and photograph them without permission.
According to a statement released by the police, the incident occurred last Tuesday afternoon in a park near the intersection of Bathurst and Alexander Streets. Initial investigations suggest that the suspect approached a group of children and began photographing them using his mobile phone, and even tried to grab one of them, before several passersby intervened and asked him to leave.
The police confirmed that the suspect fled the scene before security personnel arrived, but he was later identified and arrested on Thursday, facing charges of sexual harassment and taking pictures without consent.
Call for witnesses and reassurances for parents
The Toronto police requested anyone who was present in the park at the time of the incident or who has video recordings to contact the investigators to provide any information they have.
For their part, security officials confirmed that they are dealing strictly with any behavior that targets the safety of children, noting that the presence of police will be increased in public recreational areas in the coming days.
