Ontario police uncover a drug trafficking network on the dark web using Canada Post.

The Ontario police announced the dismantling of an advanced network suspected of using the "Dark Web" to traffic drugs, and exploiting Canada Post services to ship prohibited materials across the country.

In an official statement, the police explained that the investigation, which lasted several months and was named "Project Neutron," resulted in the arrest of five individuals and the seizure of large quantities of drugs, including fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and unlicensed pills.

Use of advanced concealment techniques

The investigations revealed that the network used encrypted platforms and an electronic black market to market its products, while relying on Canada Post as a legal front for transporting packages that were carefully wrapped to avoid detection.

Seizure of assets and digital currencies

In addition to the drugs, cash, cryptocurrencies, and electronic devices believed to have been used to operate the network were seized. The market value of the confiscated items is estimated at around $1.6 million.

Warning about the ease of exploiting legal services

The Ontario police called for enhanced scrutiny of postal services to prevent their use by criminal organizations, noting that "this operation confirms the extent to which criminal networks can adapt to technology to conceal their activities."
