Kylian Mbappé led the France national team to an exciting 3-1 victory over Senegal, in a strong start for the "Les Bleus" in the 2026 World Cup, after scoring a historic brace that made him the top scorer in the history of the French national team.

With this achievement, Mbappé raised his tally to 58 goals in the France jersey, surpassing the previous record held by Olivier Giroud, confirming his status as one of the top global football stars in the tournament.

The match started with a clear Senegalese advantage, as Nicolas Jackson nearly opened the scoring after a dangerous attempt that passed goalkeeper Mike Maignan before bouncing off the post, and Ismaïla Sarr also missed an important chance before the end of the first half.

But France appeared differently after the break, starting to impose their offensive pressure through Désiré Doué and Michael Olise, before Olise passed a smart ball to Mbappé, who placed it in the net announcing the lead and equaling Giroud’s record at that moment.

Substitute Bradley Barcola added France’s second goal in the final minutes, before Ibrahima Mbaye reduced the deficit for Senegal in stoppage time.

However, Mbappé ended any Senegalese hope of a quick comeback, after launching a powerful shot from outside the penalty area, scoring his second personal goal and France’s third.

The France captain raised his tally to 14 goals in World Cup finals, becoming just two goals away from equaling the historic record held by German Miroslav Klose with 16 goals.

The victory carries additional moral significance for France, as it spared them from repeating the shock loss against Senegal in the 2002 World Cup opener, giving them a strong start on their path to competing for the title.
