Ottawa —
The city of Ottawa has called on drivers to plan their trips in advance over the weekend due to road closures and lane reductions at several key locations within the city.
The traffic disruptions include work on Highway 417 between Preston and Kent Streets, where closures will begin Friday evening until Monday dawn. The O’Connor westbound entrance will be closed throughout the weekend, with the left lane eastbound closed, and the two left lanes westbound closed.
Lane reductions also continue on Highway 417 between Pinecrest and Woodroffe, where one lane in each direction is closed as part of work related to the extension of phase two of the O-Train. The eastbound entrance to Highway 417 from Pinecrest southbound will remain closed until July 28.
In the east end of the city, the eastbound entrance to Highway 174 from Place d’Orléans Drive will be closed until June 19.
Bank Street renewal project work also continues, leading to the closure of the east lanes of Riverside Drive between Data Centre Road and Neil Way, with traffic diverted to a temporary road and one lane open in each direction. Left turns are also prohibited at the Bank and Riverside intersection.
The closures also include the NCC Weekend Bikedays program, where parts of Kichi Zībī Mīkan, Sir George-Étienne Cartier Parkway, and Queen Elizabeth Driveway are closed to cars during specified hours on Saturday and Sunday.
Other work continues on Corkstown Road, Woodroffe Avenue, and Byron Avenue, which may increase pressure on alternative routes.
The city advises drivers to allow extra travel time, especially as these works coincide with busy events in Ottawa, including the opening of the Ottawa Redblacks season, Doors Open Ottawa, and a number of local festivals and activities.
