Canada warns against using Thermos bottles due to the risk of injury when opening them

Wide recall of food containers and thermos bottles after reports of lids forcefully popping off due to pressure buildup inside the container

Canada warns against using Thermos bottles due to the risk of injury when opening them

Ottawa —
The Canadian Ministry of Health has called on consumers to immediately stop using a number of Thermos brand food containers and thermal bottles, after a hazard was detected that could cause injuries when opening these products.

The recall includes more than 1.2 million products in Canada, including food containers and thermal bottles from the Stainless King and Sportsman series, which are products typically used to keep food and drinks hot or cold for long periods.

The problem lies in that some of these containers may accumulate pressure inside when storing perishable food or drinks, which may cause the lid to forcefully pop open. This could result in injuries from impact or cuts, especially if the user is close to the lid at the moment of opening.

The authorities have asked consumers to stop using the recalled products and check the model number located at the bottom of the container to see if the product is affected by the warning.

The affected products include specific models of food containers with different capacities, as well as thermal food and drink bottles, sold in Canada over the past years through various stores and online sales platforms.

The relevant authorities indicated that the company will provide solutions for consumers, including obtaining a replacement lid equipped with a pressure relief mechanism or replacing the product, depending on the model included in the recall.

Anyone who owns these products is advised to stop using them immediately and not to attempt to open them if they contain food or drink that has been left for a long time, until it is confirmed that they are not included in the recall or contact the company for the necessary instructions.
