The city of Toronto is experiencing today a severe winter storm considered one of the harshest this season, with heavy snowfall and strong winds that have led to a significant deterioration in driving conditions and disruptions in transportation and services.
The Canadian Environment Agency reported that the storm is accompanied by continuous snowfall that may exceed several centimeters over the hours, in addition to active winds that have caused reduced visibility on highways and main streets, especially during the morning rush hours.
Police and emergency services have recorded dozens of reports of vehicle skidding and collision accidents, while authorities have urged drivers to avoid unnecessary travel, use public transportation as much as possible, or work from home if possible.
Meanwhile, the Toronto Transit Commission announced delays in bus and tram services, with snowplows and snow removal machinery operating around the clock to keep roads and vital corridors open. It also warned of possible cancellations or delays of some flights at Pearson International Airport due to bad weather conditions.
The Toronto municipality confirmed that emergency teams and winter services are on full alert, noting that priority is given to snow removal from main roads, emergency lanes, hospitals, and public transport areas.
Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution while walking due to ice formation, wear appropriate winter clothing, and follow official updates related to weather and road conditions, as the storm continues over the coming hours.
Relevant authorities continue to publish live updates on the storm's developments and impacts, with forecasts expecting harsh winter conditions to persist until later today.
