Vancouver —
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney praised the spirit of the national team after achieving its first win in the history of its participation in the Men's World Cup, following the great victory over Qatar with a score of 6-0 in Vancouver.

Carney visited the team's locker room after the match, where he spoke to the players and coaching staff, praising the determination they showed in a difficult moment following the injury of midfielder Ismail Kone with a broken leg after a violent tackle from behind.

Kone was injured during the match following a tackle by Qatar player Asim Madbou, in an incident that angered the Canadian team players and coaching staff. After reviewing the case, the penalty was changed from a yellow card to a red card, and the Qatari team completed the match with ten players.

Despite the shock of the injury, the Canadian team continued to dominate the match, before Nathan Saliba, who came on as a substitute for Kone, scored a goal moments after his participation, celebrating by lifting the injured teammate's number 8 jersey and kissing it in a striking emotional scene.

Carney told the players that what happened showed the "true metal of the team," noting that Kone applauded the fans and shook hands with the Qatar players as he left the field, before his teammates responded on the pitch with strong and disciplined performance.

The Prime Minister added that the team showed a high level of character and cohesion in front of the Canadian and world audiences, affirming that the way the players dealt with their teammate's injury was as important as the victory itself.

With this victory, the Canadian team raised its points to four, equal with Switzerland in Group B, but leads on goal difference before the next match between the two teams.

The win over Qatar carries historical significance for Canadian soccer, as it was the first victory for the team in the Men's World Cup, on a night that combined sporting achievement and concern over the injury of one of the team's key players.
